Why Choose Kinetic Health Calgary?

Why Choose Kinetic Health?

Finding the right care for a musculoskeletal problem is not just about treating where it hurts. It is about understanding why you are having difficulty, what is limiting you, and what will help you move forward.

At Kinetic Health in Calgary, we combine thorough assessment, hands-on treatment, and progressive rehabilitation to create a plan based on your individual needs and goals.

Experience Matters

With more than 30 years of clinical experience and over 25,000 patients treated, we have worked with everything from everyday aches and injuries to complex musculoskeletal conditions and sports-related problems.

Kinetic Health is led by Dr. Brian Abelson, DC, whose career has included clinical practice, writing, teaching, and the development of Motion Specific Release (MSR). Our practitioners bring different areas of expertise together with one objective: helping you get back to the activities that matter to you.

More Than One Approach

No single treatment works for everyone. Depending on your examination findings and needs, care may include:

  • Chiropractic care

  • Registered Massage Therapy

  • Motion Specific Release (MSR)

  • Active Release

  • Graston Technique

  • Acupuncture

  • Custom orthotics

  • Functional exercise and rehabilitation

As you improve, your treatment should change with you. Hands-on care may be useful at one stage, while mobility, strength, endurance, and progressive exercise become increasingly important as you return to normal activity.

Looking at the Bigger Picture

Sometimes the right next step is treatment. Sometimes it is further investigation or working with another healthcare professional.

When appropriate, we can incorporate diagnostic imaging and collaborate or refer within the broader healthcare community.

Our goal is simple: understand the problem, explain what we find, and help you build a practical path back to the things you want to do.

Comprehensive and Customized Treatment Processes

Good treatment begins with understanding the problem. At Kinetic Health, we take the time to build a detailed picture of your health, your symptoms, and how the problem is affecting your daily life.

A Thorough Examination Process

  • Detailed Health History: Before treatment begins, our intake process gathers information about your current symptoms, medical history, previous injuries, activities, and other factors that may be relevant. Sometimes details that seem unrelated can provide important clinical context.

  • Orthopaedic and Neurological Examination: Depending on your condition, your examination may include movement, orthopaedic, neurological, strength, mobility, and functional testing. The goal is not simply to identify where you hurt, but to better understand what may be contributing to the problem and what needs to be addressed.

  • An Evolving Clinical Process: Our examination procedures have been developed and refined over decades of clinical practice and are regularly updated as research and clinical knowledge evolve. Many of these examination methods also form part of the Motion Specific Release (MSR) courses taught to other healthcare practitioners.

The more clearly we understand the problem, the more focused your treatment and rehabilitation plan can be.

Motion Specific Release Treatment Systems

Motion Specific Release (MSR) is an integrated system of musculoskeletal assessment and treatment developed by Dr. Brian Abelson. It includes more than 200 procedures for different regions of the body and draws from decades of clinical experience and continuing education in manual therapy.

MSR combines approaches from myofascial treatment, joint mobilization, chiropractic care, fascial techniques, acupuncture and acupressure concepts, and functional rehabilitation. Rather than applying the same procedure to every patient, techniques are selected according to the examination findings and the individual's needs.

Fascial Expansions: These procedures combine fascial treatment with specific anatomical locations that correspond with traditional acupuncture and acupressure points. They can be incorporated with other manual techniques, acupuncture, exercise, and rehabilitation when appropriate.

Customized Exercise Programs

Customized Exercise Programs

Customized Exercise Programs

Treatment does not end with hands-on care. Exercise helps bridge the gap between feeling better and getting back to the activities that matter to you.

Kinetic Health has developed a library of more than 250 exercise videos, allowing us to build individualized programs that can progress as your needs change.

Programs may focus on:

  • Mobility and flexibility

  • Strength and endurance

  • Balance and proprioception

  • Movement and coordination

  • Progressive loading

  • Return to work, recreation, or sport

Exercise Built Around You

There is no single exercise program that works for everyone. Your program is based on your examination findings, current abilities, goals, and the physical demands you want to return to.

For one person, the goal may be comfortably climbing stairs or working without pain. For another, it may be returning to hiking, running, golf, skiing, or competitive sport. Exercises can be modified and progressed as strength, mobility, confidence, and capacity improve.

Dr. Brian Abelson's background in endurance sports, including marathon running and triathlon, also brings a practical understanding of the demands involved in training, recovery, and returning to physical activity.

The goal is not simply to give you exercises. It is to help you progressively build the capacity to do what you want to do.

Educational Resources to Help You Understand Your Condition

Understanding what is happening can make a significant difference in how you approach treatment and rehabilitation. At Kinetic Health, we believe patients should understand their working diagnosis, the reasoning behind it, and the options available for moving forward.

That is why education has always been an important part of our clinical approach.

Explore Our Condition Articles Our Condition Article Index provides an extensive collection of articles written by Dr. Brian Abelson covering many of the musculoskeletal conditions we commonly see in practice.

These articles explain anatomy, symptoms, examination and diagnosis, treatment options, exercises, and rehabilitation in language designed to be useful to patients while remaining grounded in current clinical evidence.

Understanding Your Working Diagnosis A diagnosis should not simply be a label handed to you at the end of an examination.

When possible, we explain our working diagnosis, what we found during your examination, and why those findings are clinically relevant. We may also discuss other possible causes of your symptoms, known as a differential diagnosis, and when additional investigation or referral may be appropriate.

The goal is for you to understand not only what we think is happening, but why.

Learn Through Our Video Library

Our educational library extends well beyond the clinic. The Kinetic Health YouTube channel contains more than 800 videos covering musculoskeletal conditions, anatomy, examination, treatment, and exercise.

These resources give patients an opportunity to learn more about their condition, review exercises and explore topics discussed during their care.

Better understanding helps you become an active participant in your treatment and rehabilitation.

When appropriate, we also work with other healthcare professionals and use imaging or referral to help ensure that your care moves in the right direction.
